Introduction to business was a great course, I learned a lot whilst having fun. In my opinion, the most interesting business topic we discussed was entrepreneurship. I always thought of being your own boss as the ideal thing. Working your own hours, doing something you're passionate about would be easy. I got a reality check when we learned about all the barriers the barriers an entrepreneur must overcome to succeed. It’s in no way easy, in fact, I’d say working in a bank is an easier job. To get a guaranteed weekly pay check is much less risky than living on the edge like entrepreneurs do. As for the most surprising topic, I’d say that would be the business ethics and social responsibility part of the business fundamentals unit. I had no idea that companies and consumers put so much weight on these things. I thought if you had a good product with a reasonable price then you are set for success. The importance of valuing your customers and keeping up with positive social trends is immense! And I will never forget it. Now, the most fun activity for me was the BBHL draft assignment. For one, I am somewhat of hockey fun so it was fun to able to draft real NHL players. Also, creating mini biographies for each player was really fun. This whole project didn’t seem like work, me and my group enjoyed everything. Although it was fun, I did learn a lot about marketing and analysing assets. It was difficult trying to make our team seem better than the other teams, but in the end I think we did a good job. The most fundamental topic that will help me in the future would be employability characteristics. Knowing what employers are looking, this will definitely help me in job interviews. Also, knowing the characteristics of someone successful, I can starting changing my ways now so that when the time comes that I need a job, I’m prepared. In all, this course was one of my favorite courses of the year. Having fun while learning is always ideal. I will definitely take business again in my last 2 years of secondary and I hope one day to be a successful man of business.
